Specific Responsibilities: Gilead Sciences is currently seeking a Sr. Accountant to join our Collaborations Accounting group.

In this role the successful candidate will:

* Collaborates with senior management from the Alliance Management Organization in ensuring compliance with financial and non financial provisions of our collaboration agreements including maintaining an efficient and accurate tracking system for non routine financial events.
* Responsible for the timely and accurate review and posting of month end close and accounting transactions related to collaborative agreements; P&L and balance sheet account analysis, review, reconciliation & resolution; and financial analysis as needed to support projects or assigned customer groups.
* Coordinates Financial Planning and Analysis and reporting process for assigned customer groups.
* Will be involved in more complex accounting activities such as collaboration accounting or partnerships
* May participate in & sometimes lead multiple complex, cross-functional projects within the Collaborations Management and Accounting group
* Participates in cross-functional corporate initiatives to optimize financial/operating systems and/or improve processes
* Anticipates issues that may arise within the Accounting, FP&A and Alliance Management functions in the short term and develops solutions, sometimes without similar precedents.
* Consistently maintains appropriate internal controls and upholds company policies & procedures including the Worldwide Controllers manual.
* Identifies areas for process improvements and proposes solutions
* Interacts successfully with internal and external auditors and support quarter end, interim and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision, interact successfully with non-financial personnel.
Essential Duties and Job Functions: * Manages the activities of one or more general accounting functions/processes and provides direction and coordination to professional and clerical staff within the department and cross-functionally.

* Acts as an advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and resolve technical problems.

* Responsible for the timely and accurate review and posting of month end close and accounting transactions; P&L and balance sheet account analysis, review, reconciliation & resolution; and financial analysis.

* Ensures financial records are in compliance with GAAP.

* Consistently maintains appropriate internal controls and upholds company policies & procedures including the Worldwide Controllers manual.

* Interacts successfully with internal and external auditors and support quarter end, interim and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication.

* Recommends & implements process improvements.

* Ability to work with minimal supervision, interact successfully with non-financial personnel.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills: 6 years of relevant experience and a BA or BS degree in accounting or equivalent.
Experience in biotech or pharmaceuticals industry a plus.
Experience in multi-national organization a plus.

Requires in-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting policies and procedures.
In-depth knowledge of JD Edwards or equivalent is essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required.
Proficient in all aspects of accounting and finance.
Significant experience in a multi-currency environment is required.
Strong presentation skills are required.
