AES Clean Energy (AES) is currently seeking a Wind Development Manager to support Utility-Scale project development efforts as a member of AES's Western Wind Development Team. The Wind Team is responsible for internal origination, development, and execution of wind projects throughout the country.

The successful candidate will report to a Senior Development Manager and will lead the development of wind development assets from site origination and acquisition through construction commencement. This is a fast-paced role working with internal and external key stakeholders and will provide immediate exposure to all aspects of the renewable energy industry while focusing on wind generation.

This hybrid position will be based in Louisville, CO or San Diego, CA and requires 25% travel to project sites in the region. The role requires the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and navigate competing workflows. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with commercial origination, business development, legal, real estate, finance, engineering, interconnection, construction, outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders, and utility companies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of project development from early-stage site origination or acquisition through late-stage contracting and commencement of construction

  • Conduct financial, land, market, regulatory, and related project research to assist Wind Team

  • Support due diligence efforts for prospective project M&A opportunities

  • Lead conversations and establish strong relationships with key project stakeholders such as landowners, permitting officials, vendors, external contractors, and partners

  • Manage and maintain landowner relationships, land acquisition and project siting databases

  • Use GIS platforms to create maps and analyze spatial data

  • Assist in document and contract preparation and lead negotiations (including Non-disclosure Agreements, Land Leases, Master Supply Agreements, and other project related documents)

  • Maintain project schedule and budget creation for wind development pipeline

  • Identify and clearly articulate project risks, opportunities and recommended action(s)

  • Work cross functionally to drive high-priority strategic development initiatives in a variety of fields

  • Coordinate with internal teams and external resources to perform project development duties including critical issue screening, engineering, environmental studies, surveys, diligence reports, title review, financial structuring, property tax matters, community relations, or other development duties as required

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Passion for the energy industry and renewable technologies and interest in the energy transition

  • 2-5 years in renewable energy development required, Wind Energy development experience strongly preferred

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent required, a degree in engineering, sciences, finance, or business, would be advantageous

  • Strong understanding of energy fundamentals including project development, project finance, energy markets, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and contracting (Preferred but not required)

  • Creative thinking and appreciation for a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving

  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to compile complex sets of information into concise and digestible materials to support executive management presentations and other forms of communication

  • Self-motivated, self-reliant, and capable of operating with minimum supervision, yet collaborative and team oriented

  • Strong time management skills with an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of CAD, GIS Software, ArcGIS or Google Earth (advantageous but not required)

  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software with strong Excel skills (basic financial modelling skills may be an advantage)

  • A valid driver's license and flexibility to travel to different project sites within the United States is required

The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $115.000 and $148.750/Annual; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements such as annual bonus, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, life, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if a candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
