Chapman University and Schmid College seeks applications for Fall 2024 for Part-time Lab Instructors for the following lab courses:
- General Chemistry Lab 1 - CHEM 140L
- General Chemistry Lab 2 - CHEM 150L
- Organic Chemistry Lab 1 - CHEM 230L
- Organic Chemistry Lab 2 - CHEM 331L

Qualifications
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent professional experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
- Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence.
- Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
- Appreciation and respect for student role, contribution, and responsibility in the learning process.
- Commitment to personalized education and the Chapman Experience in the Lab room.

Desired Qualifications:
- A completed or in progress graduate degree in STEM discipline
- University or community college teaching experience, specifically with introductory STEM courses, such as introductory chemistry lab, general chemistry lab 1, general chemistry lab 2, organic chemistry lab 1, and/or organic chemistry lab 2.
Responsibilities
- Teach one or 2 assigned 4-hour lab sections once per week throughout the semester.
- Each week includes presenting a pre-laboratory lecture about the lab material, instructing and guiding students in correct laboratory technique and safety during the execution of a laboratory experiment, holding office hours, attending instructor meetings, and grading all assignments submitted by the students.
- The possible laboratory section times are weekdays 8:00-11:50 AM, 1:00-4:50 PM, or 6:00-9:50 PM, depending on availability.
- The instructor must be available to attend lab instructor orientations before the start of the semester.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The pay range for course and course related work for this position is $44.32 per hour.
